Artira in Action
Science World, Vancouver
At Vancouver’s iconic Science World, accessibility has been central since the building’s transformation from the Expo 86 Centre. When its aging lift became unreliable, a new Artira inclined platform lift was installed to ensure barrier-free access for students, families, and visitors from around the world.
The original lift, installed in 1989, had reached the end of its service life. Heavy visitor traffic, unique building architecture, and the need to preserve exhibit space created installation challenges.
Garaventa’s British Columbia branch installed a custom-curved Artira with a folding platform and slim rail profile. The lift connects the children’s gallery with an upper interactive learning room, integrating seamlessly into the centre’s flow.
Visitors of all ages and mobility levels can now navigate Science World independently. The upgrade restored confidence in the facility’s accessibility while meeting modern ADA and ASME A18.1 standards.
